What you need to know before your child starts at pre-school
We know starting pre-school is a very stressful time for some parents and so we have put together a few tips to help with that first day:
1) Start getting your little one to bed at a reasonable time, starting a good bed time routine now will help with getting up in plenty of time for pre-school. The last thing you want on their first morning is a tired little one that has been woken before they are ready, rushed to eat breakfast and then arriving at pre-school stressed.
2) Talk to your little one about their visit, who they met, what fun they had, and about all the different things they will get to do. Try reading stories together about going to pre-school and show them pictures on our website and face book page to remind them of all the fun things on offer.
3) Pack their bag - spare clothes, a comforter, a water bottle and if they are staying all day a named lunch box. Remember to make sure you have completed all the necessary registration forms and have them along with their birth certificate to hand in when you arrive. It may also be helpful to make a list of any questions you are still unsure of so you can discuss these with your key person when you arrive.
4) When you arrive at pre-school auntie Tracey will take all your paperwork to check and your key person will be there to welcome you.
5) When it's time for you to say goodbye, explain carefully that you're about to go and you'll be back to pick them up when pre-school is over. Don't start to leave and then get drawn back by tears and a trembling lip, be assure the aunties will stay with your little one if they are upset and you will receive a text during the morning to let you know how they are doing when they first start.
6)If your child is staying at pre-school for lunch, could you please ensure all lunch boxes and drink containers are named, if your child is bringing a packed lunch may we remind parents that nuts should not to be included.
7) We know this is a very anxious time for both of you but please rest assured we will keep you updated, we will not leave your child distressed, their key person will be with them during their first session. The calmer you remain the more relaxed your child will be so please resist those temptations to keep popping back once you have said goodbye. We will agree a pick up time with you and give you a text update during their first session.
If you need to speak to the supervisor (Tracey), she will be available at the door every day. Should you wish to meet with your key person let Tracey know and she can arrange a mutually convenient time to do so.
